Besides managing his accounting and recycling firms, certified public accountant Larry Wittig is heavily involved in several community boards and organizations. Larry Wittig has presided over the Tamaqua Area School Board for more than two decades and was recently named to the School Board Safety Committee.
During the summer of 2019, the Tamaqua Area School Board announced the formation of a safety and security committee dedicated to promoting student safety in the town’s public school system. In August, board members appointed a diverse group of parents, medical professionals, law enforcement and public safety officers, and educators to the committee.
The committee’s primary objective will be to develop and implement a safety policy that includes preventative and responsive measures for handling emergency events occurring on school grounds. The committee's inaugural meeting was held in September. Mr. Wittig anticipates a comprehensive safety policy will be developed over the course of the next few months.
